Research and Access
We welcome inquiries and visits from all users, regardless of affiliation. Researchers can contact Special Collections reference staff via the contact us form on our website. Staff are also available Monday – Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm via telephone (843-953-8016) and email (specialcollections[at]cofc[dot]edu).
Researchers can also explore collections via our Discovery Service, the Lowcountry Digital Library, or through various Research Guides
Visiting
Visitors can access our Reading Room, located on the third floor of the Addlestone Library (205 Calhoun Street), Monday- Friday from 9:00am-noon and 1:00pm-4:00pm. Please note the reading room is closed to visitors from noon – 1:00pm every day. For the most up-to-date hourly and holiday schedule, please see CofC Libraries Hours calendar.
To enter the Addlestone Library, College of Charleston students, alumni, faculty, and staff must have their current CofC ID. All other visitors are required to register at the main entrance. Please note: a photo ID is required to register as a visitor. More information for visitors is available at https://libguides.library.cofc.edu/addlestone.
Members of the general public planning to visit Special Collections for multiple consecutive days can apply for a Special Collections Extended Reader Card. For more information and to apply, please visit the Special Collections LibGuide tab on Research and Access.
In the reading room, guidelines for safety, order, and collections handling must be followed at all times.
